Statement of Faith on Biblical Marriage

Purpose:  To set forth a scriptural foundation for our Fellowship of Ministers, to perform or abstain from performing, specific service rights in regards to biblical marriage.  

Scripture Foundation:   Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:18-25

Genesis 1:27

27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 2:18-25

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [p]suitable for him.” 19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field, but for [q]Adam there was not found a helper [r]suitable for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 And the Lord God [s]fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“At last this is bone of my bones,

And flesh of my flesh;

[t]She shall be called [u]‘woman,’

Because [v]she was taken out of [w]man.”

24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed.

BMI Statement of Faith on Biblical Marriage:  

Out of our deep love and honor for God and His unchanging nature, set forth and manifested in His good plan for the gift of union in marriage, for His own creation, made in His own image, male and female, as stated in Genesis 1:27; we faithfully ordain each minister within our Fellowship of Ministers to utilize their service rights as ministers of this Holy Word, to perform any marital union as is within the fulfillment of their annual commitment to Brittain Ministries, Inc. that upholds the biblical foundation and model of a Christian marriage as between a man and a woman, as stated in Genesis 2:18-25.

Counseling Plan: 

Meetings will be held at The Brittain Ministries House with Mary Stamey and one board member in attendance with any interested couple.

Goals/Objectives:

1. Meeting One - Prayer and overview of BMI Statement of Faith on Biblical Marriage

2. Meeting Two - Prayer and Bible Study on scripture verse, Genesis 1:27 

3. Meeting Three - Prayer and Bible Study on scripture passage, Genesis 2:18-25 

Timeframe:

Number - three to four

Duration - one-hour 

Time period - the couple attends weekly for one month
